The first edition 1860 is easily distinguished from the later published 2nd edition 1860 (as well as other later Mitchell atlases) by the page numbers being printed within the border, all other later made atlases move the page number outside the border. Another feature that separates this 1st edition, 1st state, Mitchell atlas is the strong & vibrant hand-coloring as well as the extra dark and pronounced separately engraved floral border. This tremendous map would look great framed! Only 1st edition, 1 state, specimen for sale on eBay! Condition: Overall, excellent condition. Just some minor toning & minor staining (exactly as pictured!).
