The first half of the works contains a collection of tax returns transmitted to the secretary of State for the Home Department, in pursuant to the Local Taxation Returns Act 23 and 24 Vict. c. 51.Collected from England and Wales, and expenditure thereof, for the year ending Easter 1866. The first section contains; Church Rates and Supplement Returns, Sewers Rates, Drainage and Embankment Rates, Rates under the Act for the Lighting and Watching of Parishes, Rates Levied Under the Acts for the Better Local Management of the Metropolis, Tolls in Respect of Bridges and Ferries, Tolls and Dues and Respect of Harbours, Rates and Dues Received and Expanded by Burial Boards Under the Burial Acts, and Rates Levied by Local Boards. CONDITION In a half calf binding with cloth boards and gilt lettering to to the spine. Externally, rubbing to the spine and extremities, and fading to the head of the front board. Shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages, generally clean aside from some marginal spotting, and scattered spotting to endpapers.
