He sang with various opera companies in the U.K. and in Chicago and Philadelphia.He recorded for Edison, Victor, Gramophone Co., Odeon, Edison Bell, Marathon, Operaphone, Pathé and others.He had his own recording company (Alan Turner Opera Co.) and toured widely in the 1930's. Turner, Alan, baritone, * 1870 (?), † (?); This English singer was to be found in various English opera companies in the first decade of our century, including the Carl Rosa Opera Company, where he appeared as Telramund in "Lohengrin" and as Escamillo in "Carmen". With these troops he toured England and at the same time gave concerts, the programs of which consisted mostly of popular ballad music. In 1911 he sang Silvio in "Bajazzo" at the Covent Garden Opera in London. In the 1913-14 season he was engaged at the Chicago Opera, where he took part in productions of Gounod's Faust and Carmen in English. He later founded an opera school in England and arranged semi-professional opera performances.Records: Recordings on G&T (London, 1906), Pathé (London, 1909-10), Edison cylinders, plus recordings on smaller English stamps (including John Bull). Victor records were made during his stay in the USA.
