Aksenov was associated with the Constructivists and worked in the theatre of Vsevolod Meyerhold. A critic, poet, and translator he was an outstanding representative of the genre crossing and internationalist spirit of Russian avant-garde art. In this book, among first theoretical monographs on Picasso, Aksenov outlines his aesthetic views while positing breakthrough ideas concerning Picasso in relation to El Greco, Braque and Matisse. The front cover was designed and illustrated by the significant Alexandra Ekster, (1882-1949), Russian-Ukranian-French avant-garde artist, designer, Constructivist, Cubo-Futurist and one of the influencers of the Art Deco style.
