1932 Topographic Map: GORHAM, NEW HAMPSHIRE - Berlin, Wildcat, Appalachian Trail

Description: Measuring about 16-1/2" x 20", this vintage topographic map is titled "New Hampshire-Maine - Gorham Quadrangle." It is the Edition of 1893, reprinted in 1932, and published by the United States Geological Survey. Most of the map is New Hampshire, with the Maine border running down the right hand side (along with slivers of Stow, Batchelder's Purchase, Gilead and Riley). On the New Hampshire side, the Androscoggin River meanders from upper left to center right, through Berlin, Gorham and Shelburne, with Success at the far upper right. South of the Androscoggin, most of the real estate is in the White Mountain National Forest, including what is now the Wild River Wilderness at the lower right. Although it isn't marked on the map, the Appalachian Trail now runs diagonally across this map, from Wildcat Mountain at the lower left corner, over the Carter Range and Moriah Range, then crossing the Androscoggin River to the Mahoosuc range, including Mount Ingalls (now called Mount Success), and on into Maine at the upper right corner. The scale is 1:62,500. Printed on the back is a Legend and information on "The Topographic Maps of the United States." It is in excellent condition for its age, with some typical light surface rubbing and edge wear, and some inscriptions in the lower margin and on the back.
