Washington DC A special House committee began public hearing today on the war time massacre of 4 to 15 thousand Polish soldiers at Katyn Forest, near Smolensk in western Russia, with Lt Col John Van Vliet as 1st witness. The Colonel was one of 4 US and British officers, who as POWs, were taken in by the Germans to the massacre site. The massacre was blamed on the Russians by the Germans.
