History was made and milestones were passed as Southern Bell Telephone Company emerged from its 89th year of providing telephone service to New Orleanians and the state of Louisiana. And as the year drew to a close Southern Bell Telephone Company announced that a new company, to be known as South Central Bell Telephone Company, would be formed to serve Southern Bell subscribers in Louisiana, Mississippi and three other southeastern states. The other states to be included in the new company are Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. New on Poydras at Baronne is Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company's Electronic Central Office, a seven-story structure to be operational in early 1969. Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
