The story behind the need for brighter carousel picture lights. The Dark Tower pictured is the German edition. These units like the UK and later US editions have the carousel pictures that were printed darker with a darker front lens that make the lights appear dimmer. The earlier US units with carousel prints and the front lens that are comparably more translucent, make them appear noticeably brighter. Again, new batteries are a factor in the brightness of the carousel bulbs. Fresh batteries start out brighter, but quickly dim as the game goes on. These custom LED modules replace the original incandescent light bulbs without modifying the original board. This upgrade is installed with a non-destructive adjustment to the existing bulb sockets, then soldered with a custom resistor. The bulb sockets are spread open slightly to lock in the new LEDs. You can always revert back to the original bulb setup as the bulb sockets are easily closed back to the original spacing to install the original 2.5V T3.5 bulbs. These bulb upgrade LEDs are 20000mcd brightness. The LEDs are custom shaped on a small lathe from a stock 15 focused flashlight lens cut down to a shape to create an even light pattern. The tower depicted in this item has the optional .5" Ultra Bright digit display upgrade. That's sold separately in my other items. Everything sounds better with Ultra!
