It will be telecast on NBC Sunday Night at the Movies, September 23 (9-11 pm NYT). Advertising executive Elizabeth Early (Hamel) meets attorney Martin Knapek (Hirsch) in a French class and agrees to have a drink with him after class. He's all charm at the restaurant, and he asks if they can stop by his office on the way home to pick up some important papers. Once inside the office, he immediately expects - then demands - to have sex. She resists, but he overpowers her, using verbal threats to get his way. From the outset veteran prosecutor Doris Cantore (Grant) knows this will be a difficult case. A mistrial is finally declared when the jury is hopelessly deadlocked. But now Knapek goes on the offensive by filing a multi-million dollar slander suit. Devastated by Knapek's ploy, Early sees no choice but to request another criminal trial. But Cantore's politically sensitive boss refuses. Outraged, Cantore resigns and agrees to represent Early in the civil matter.
