You are bidding on 20 RED HEART ROSE OF SHARON SEEDS - Hibiscus syriacus " red heart ". Very easy to grow , this even self seeds . This is an upright growing shrub that features bold white trumpet-shaped flowers with ruby-red centers along the branches from mid summer to early fall. It has green foliage throughout the season Flowers bloom from July until frost. This xeriscape plant is a vigorous, upright, vase-shaped, deciduous shrub that may be massed, planted in groups, used as a specimen, a foundation plant, or shrub borders. Red Heart Hibiscus can also be used as a hedge or screen. It has no serious insect or disease problems. Annual pruning back will result in increased shoot vigor and larger flowers. It is adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions and tolerant of full sun to partial shade. These small, erect trees have numerous upright branches, which should be pruned back heavily in the early spring. Mature height of 8-12' with a mature spread of 6-8'. Mature Height 8 to 10 feet Zones 5-8 Medicinal use of Rose Of Sharon: The leaves are diuretic, expectorant and stomachic. A decoction of the flowers is diuretic, ophthalmic and stomachic. It is also used in the treatment of itch and other skin diseases, dizziness and bloody stools accompanied by much gas. The bark contains several medically active constituents, including mucilage, carotenoids, sesquiterpenes and anthocyanidins. A decoction of the root bark is antiphlogistic, demulcent, emollient, febrifuge, haemostatic and vermifuge. It is used in the treatment of diarhoea, dysentery, abdominal pain, leucorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea and dermaphytosis. Edible parts : Young leaves - raw or cooked. A very mild flavor, though slightly on the tough side, they make an acceptable addition to the salad bowl. A tea is made from the leaves or the flowers. Flowers - raw or cooked. A mild flavor and mucilaginous texture, they are delightful in salads, both for looking at and for eating. Other uses : A low quality fiber is obtained from the stems.
