5 +2 Mystery Snails (Pomacea Bridgesii) Live Freshwater Snail- Assorted Colors

Description: Mystery Snails Mystery Snails can be a good match for many tanks, like community, shrimp or snail tanks. Current available colors: Gold, Jade, Black, Green (technically a Jade but the shell is a metallic Army green color), Purple, Ivory… soon there will be Blue and Chestnut (still very small). These guys range in size from slightly less than a dime to quarter size. They are between 1-3 months. They are all healthy and active. I will try to accommodate color requests. A Mystery Snail is a common freshwater Aquarium snail and make wonderful pets! They are an interesting addition to a community tank. A Mystery Snail can be seen for hours on end canvasing the tank for edible matter. Mystery Snail Care Is Pretty Easy In general, Mystery Snail care can be thought of in terms of tank size, habitat, water parameters, diet, growth rate, lifespan and reproduction. Mystery Snail care is relatively easy, making it a good snail for beginners. Tank Size:  Mystery snails need at least 5 gallons. Their bio-load is pretty heavy for a snail and if you keep many in smaller tanks, more frequent water changes or a larger filter will be needed. Mystery snails can be escape artists, and a tight fitting lid is necessary for their safety! Habitat:  A Mystery Snail can adapt to a variety of habitats, but they seem to really enjoy tanks with a variety of live plants. Live aquarium plants shed dead or dying plant matter into the water serving as food for the snails. Tanks with live plants are never “too clean”, making Mystery Snails a good custodian. A Mystery Snail also enjoys a tank with lots of rocks, caves other interesting spots to explore. Water Parameters:  Mystery Snail care is easy is because they are very adaptable and can do well in a range of water conditions. The tank water should be well aerated and oxygenated, with stable water parameters. Mystery Snails do best in tanks where sudden shifts in conditions are avoided. Mystery Snails seems to enjoy being in water within the community tank range: Aquarium pH: 7.0 – 7.5, Hardness: On the hard side, for their shells Water Temperature: 72 – 80 Degrees Fahrenheit Lighting: Normal community tank lighting When keeping snails, it’s important to test tank water regularly. Make sure Ammonia and Nitrite levels are at 0 ppm, and control Nitrate levels as well as organic matter accumulation with regular partial water changes. As with other shelled tank mates, be very careful when using medications and plant fertilizers as some of the ingredients may be harmful. Most importantly, avoid copper. Even in small amounts, copper can be fatal. Diet: These snails spend a lot of time on the hard surfaces of a tank searching for something to eat and they have big appetites! Mystery Snail food sources include dead or decaying plant matter, soft Algae, uneaten food and fallen tank mates. Mystery Snail food should also include a variety of fish flakes, pellets, bottom feeder tablets, algae wafers and calcium-rich supplements. Calcium is important for healthy shell growth. As for feeding, feed in small amounts and no more than the snails can eat in 5 minutes. Food can also include dead fish, snails or shrimp. They LOVE Snello! There are many recipes if you google. I like to make it and freeze it in candy molds and pop one in the tank every couple of days. And the fish seem go crazy for it too. Veggies:  An often-overlooked snail food source are fresh vegetables. Rinsed green lettuce leaves, spinach leaves, green zucchini slices, or unsalted canned green beans are all good choices. While small amounts of fresh vegetables can be added directly to a tank, it may be a good idea to quickly blanch the vegetables to soften them before feeding. Figuring out whether the snails are interested in eating vegetables may be trial and error, so experiment with a variety of choices. Interested snails will find the food quickly start eating. As a general rule, if the snails are not interest in eating the vegetables within 24 hours or so, remove the food from the tank. Too much uneaten food in a tank can cause water quality issues. Growth:  Eating a balanced diet of debris, aquarium algae, vegetables and commercial supplements will allow your snails to grow quickly and steadily. This is particularly true with Calcium. If Calcium levels are sufficient, a Mystery Snail swill grow thick, healthy, crack-free shells. If food is less plentiful, or if Calcium levels are insufficient, growth rate will be slower. Shells will be thinner with signs of small ridge-like cracks. Therefore, it’s a good idea to feed Mystery snails a wide variety of calcium rich food. Lifespan:  Healthy, well fed Mystery Snails have a lifespan of one to three years, maybe longer if they are very well cared for and fortunate! Acclimation: Once you receive your package and get the snails out of the box, I recommend that you acclimate them to your water. There’s 2 easy ways to do this. 1). Drip acclimation- Drip acclimation involves airline tubing, 2 airline tube holders, & an airline tube valve. You want to make sure the end of the airline tubing that’s going in the tank is around 3”-4” bellow the waters surface and that will connect to the airline tube holder which suctions onto the glass. This ensures that you won’t get any air into the tubing which will break the suction. The valve can be placed anywhere on the outside of the tank on the airline tubing. It can be 3” bellow the tank or halfway down to the bucket. Just make sure the valve isn’t in the bucket. The other airline tube holder will suction onto the inside of the bucket where the other end of the tube will go (the 2nd holder isn’t a priority but it helps). Suck on the end of the airline tube outside of the tank with the valve all the way open at first and then slowly close the valve until there’s a small stream of water coming out or around 10-20 drops per second. Let sit for 30 minutes or until the snails are moving around the bucket. 2). Pour Acclimation- Pour acclimation is when you slowly pour water into the bucket overtime to slowly adjust your snails to the water conditions and temp. I recommend pouring 1 cup of tank water into the bucket every 2 minutes for around 30 minutes or until your snails are fully moving around. This will help your snails acclimate to the ph as well as temp of your tank. Once they become active and are moving around you can then add them to your tank. I include 2 extra snails to cover any potential DOAs for a total of 7 snails. I only ship on Mondays! This prevents the snails from sitting in a warehouse somewhere over a weekend.
