Description: Untitled Document Antique Cotton Calico Print Dress Feedsack Flour Sack Fabric Flying Geese Quilt Top This vintage antique cotton calico print dress feedsack flour sack fabric print flying geese quilt top dates from the late 19th century with some 1920s print fabrics. It is made of antique 19th century colorful cotton calico prints workwear dress fabrics of indigo blue with anchors, horse shoes, flowers, checked ginghams, striped ticking and red white polka dot print fabric triangle spacers. Along the bottom row there are some later 1920s colorful pastel floral print feedsack flour sack dress fabric pieces used. This fabulous folk art quilt top has a flying geese pattern block design, with a black and white gingham checked border trim edging and is not backed. According to folklore, settlers aiding escaped slaves using the Underground Railroad would place household items, including quilts, outside their homes to convey messages to those in need. The flying geese quilt block pattern code was to inform escaping slaves to follow the migrating geese toward Canada and to freedom. The quilt measures 74 by 70 inches. It is in good condition, with a few frayed small holes and a patched mended repair with a black white gingham fabric piece (see close-ups). Great for upcycling!
