Description: Daguerreotype & Case made by TWRegarded as the first commercial photography process.First unveiled to the public in 1839. If you're new to daguerreotypes, note that viewing requires the correct angle and lighting; otherwise, you’ll see your own reflection, as the surface is a silver mirror. Each daguerreotype is a one-of-a-kind creation. The process requires gilding, sensitising, developing and fixing the plate by hand, often taking hours. This labour intensive approach contrasts sharply with mass-produced photographs, adding a tangible connection to time and space. Each case is cast in polyurethane resin then distressed by hand, so minor differences from the photo are possible. The magnetic closure ensures a secure fit. Unlike traditional daguerreotypes, these are made using silver gilded glass plates and the Becquerel method of development. Daguerreotypes when properly cared for, can last centuries. Many 19th-century examples still survive today. Unlike regular photos, which fade, or digital files, which may become obsolete, daguerreotypes are built to endure as a permanent legacy. Taking care of your photograph:Store in a dry, moisture free environmentat a stable temperature. For instance, a cabinet or drawer in your regular living quarters.Keep away from sunlight (as stated on the lid).
