Description: The coin on this pendant was retrieved from the shipwreck site of the HMS Admiral Gardner, a British East India Company merchant ship enroute to Madras, India. The ship, along with its sister ship Brittania, were blown into the treacherous Goodwin Sands sandbar off the coast of Kent, England on the night of January 24, 1809. The coins remained in their original chests until a crew recovered them in 1985, nearly 4 miles off the coast. This X (10) CASH coin was among a wide array of tokens retrieved from the wreckage. The front of this coin displays the East India Company’s coat of arms with two lions holding a crest with St George's cross, alongside flags and above a ribbon with the phrase "Auspicio Regis et Senatus Anglia”, meaning "Under the auspices of the sovereign and senate" of England. The back side of the coin displays the coin’s value in Persian and English. The coin has been fashioned as a pendant and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This piece of history is a beautiful item to wear or admire with great detail and age. The piece has a beautiful patina, but could be polished, if the new owner prefers more luster. Measures approximately 1 inch - see images for detail and sizing.
