The easel has a chain to prevent the back legs from sliding to far back. The easel will stand without the chain having to be fully engaged so that means you can play with the pitch of what you are displaying on the easel, whether that be pictures, dishware or piece of artwork. The easel measures about 14 1/4" tall and has a variance from piece to piece.
