The ivory lace is an intricate pattern that is very pretty with a bit of a nod to the roaring 20's but without any hint of the costumy styles you find elsewhere, it is just a subtle and cool edginess in the design that adds so much style picking and choosing exactly just enough bits of fashion from yesteryear to make it unique while keeping classic lines and style to make it modern and chic. Gotta say, in the big world of design Max Azria does this with expertise. He knows just the right balance to create clothing that women from 20 to 80 love - and that is no small feat. This dress combines the beautiful lace in tiers giving the dress movement and softness and slyly creating just the right technique to hide any poof in the tummy area - should it be a poofy time for a woman - cause ladies we all know poof happens. LOL. So while cleverly hugging the curves beautifully it also accents and disguises in all the right places. The best part is the color is a creamy ivory - yes it has that little teensy bit of yellow in it that takes it from the off white or ivory and into a cream color just a little. Those off whites are a color palette all their own. But, this slight edge into the cream assures that it can be worn all year long without offending those "white" after labor day folk, although gotta say - I think that rule may have died with my grandmother's generation. A couple other little things - an important note on the lace - although intricate - it doesn't fall into any tablecloth vibes - I know lace is tricky and no one wants to feel like they pulled a Carol Burnette and sewed the tablecloth into a dress. LOL. I tried to get a few close ups so you can see how pretty it is and the color. It is a size 6 and it is short but not mini short. It is perfect for parties, the holidays, or dinner out. NOTE - please do not wear to a wedding UNLESS you are the bride, because no one wants to wear shades of whites to weddings unless specifically instructed to do so by the bride herself. I bring this up because if you ARE a bride in search of a shorter dress for a ceremony or reception or vow renewal or beachy wedding - this dress could work beautifully. And a little secret - I bought my wedding dress at a thrift store for $150 because I read an article about the trend to rent or buy 2nd hand back 25 years ago and how one happy bride was married at a resort with a pool and jumped in dress and all without any regrets since her dress cost her $100 at a thrift store. Since it is a dress that generally we wear one time this seemed like a cool idea and I have to say it was great - although I did not jump in a pool in mine. I highly recommend using that extra money for the honeymoon or reception. The greatest part of this dress is it absolutely can be fancy enough to walk down an aisle on a wedding day while being fun and casual enough to wear to a party or out to dinner and with a little gold or red or green jewelry or shoes you definitely could make this your holiday or New Year's Eve dress too. It is versatile most certainly. And if I wore a size 6 - that boat sailed after my first child - I would keep this stunner because honestly I would wear it all the time for dress up events - it is perfection!! Another little lovely fact is that this dress is machine washable. Woohoo!! Probably best to hang it to dry though. As you can see from the pictures it is in beautiful condition. Happy Shopping!
