SIGNED and dated “20 August, 1996” by cartographer John Edward Davis on lower portion of map. Condition is Very Good, pushpin holes on corners, otherwise clean and bright. John Edward Davis (1951-2009) a renowned self-taught cartographer, created the Commemorative Map of The Republic of Texas 1845 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Texas Revolution. This hand-drawn and exquisitely colored map is celebrated for its dramatic and accurate depiction of the Republic of Texas just before its annexation by the United States. It showcases the original 36 counties, 78 Spanish land grants along the Rio Grande, and the vast region claimed by Texas, stretching from the Mexican border through present-day Wyoming. Davis’s meticulous study of the Santa Fe Trail is also highlighted, making this map a treasured piece of Texan history and artistry.
