Description: DC Comics Action Comics Title - "Superman: Beware the Hero-Killers " Volume - 1 Issue #444 Date - February 1975 SynopsisProfessional hero killers Kydyk and Zoyoz make a presentation regarding their past assassinations. A shadowy figure watches with great interest as he views examples of galactic heroes being eliminated by the assassins for hire. He decides to hire the pair of killers to eliminate his arch foe, he remarks that he has attempted to destroy his foe on a number of occasions but has been unsuccessful. The two energy beings arrive on Earth. One of them disguises himself as a security guard and attacks Clark Kent in an elevator. He shoots him with an energy ray and stuns the hero in disguise. The energy being then escapes with the thought that phase one is complete. Clark seems relieved to have survived the attempt on his life and seems to be fine as he flies across the city. He then spots a lone firefighter on the rooftop. He asks Superman for help as smoke rises from a skylight. Superman approaches the smoke and it engulfs him as if it were alive. He then gets attacked by the firefighter as he shoots him with another energy beam. Superman falls down to the street as the energy assassin makes its escape announcing that phase 2 has been completed. The next morning Clark Kent is on the air when he notices a stream of energy emitting from his mouth. He calls on his friend Green Lantern who decides to blast Superman with his ring to neutralize the energy flow. Green Lantern aims the ring at Superman and fires. The beam ricochets off Superman and bounces back to Green Lantern. As Green Lantern lays dying he realizes that he was the target of the assassins and not Superman. Lanterns body then disintegrates and appears in front of the sinister figure that turns out to be Sinestro. Green Lantern then comes to and apprehends Sinestro and we discover that he had only appeared to be dead. The energy assassins are apprehended by Superman and he reveals that he had discovered their assassination plot in advance. He and Lantern had devised a plan in which Lanterns ring appeared to hit Superman but it never touched him. The twinkle effect soon wears off from Superman's body and he returns to normal.
