Description: This charming item was collected in Mexico before WWII. It is a ceramic Last Supper, modeled like one would dough, with a very shiny yellow ochre glaze. It is a great example of Latin American Folk Art, very beautiful and naïve. The glossy finish makes it hard to photograph so I'll describe it the best I can. This is a pottery plaque organized in two tiers with a rope-twist border. The top tier shows Jesus with his disciples at a table. The disciples have bowls before them and flowers over their heads. Judas is clutching the bag of silver, Thomas holds a large skeleton key and Jesus is distinguished with a halo, chalice and loaf of bread. The bottom portion has a procession of flowers and snakes as well as the maker's initials. There are two handle-like loops at each end (perhaps they are some kind of hangers?). The back is extremely shiny with two holes for hanging. There is not a flaw, crack, chip or any other damage. It is about 8" x 16" and maybe an inch-and-a-half thick. This will be sent in a $22.65 USPS Flat Rate box. U.S. bidders please. [Boston Primitive]
