Gruppe (1860-1940). He lived throughout his professional painting career in Gloucester, MA and wintered in Jeffersonille, VT and Sarasota, FL. Gruppe studied at the National Academy (NYC), at the Grande Chaumiere, Paris; and with John F. Carlson, Richard Miller, George Bridgman, Charles Chapman and Charles Hawthorne (in Provincetown) and by 1930 he was known for his fluid, Lucid post-impressionist scenes of the American landscape and of Gloucester boating views.
