Description: Estate Find Gene Davis Lithograph Poster Smithsonian Associate Resident Program 1980 We offer one of the posters created by Gene Bernard Davis, American (1920-1985) to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Smithsonian Associate Resident Program in 1980. He was commissioned to create the 1975 10th anniversary poster and the 1985 20th anniversary poster which was completed posthumously and signed by his widow.The poster is a fifteen color silkscreen on wove paper and has been signed in pencil on the lower right corner. The poster is presented in a silver frame with an overall dimension of 26 1/4" in width and 30 1/4" in height. The paper dimensions are 30" x 26" and the image dimensions are 26 1/2" x 24".The poster is in gently used vintage condition with undulation, slight rubbings and a small mar to the paper in the lower right section of the purple central stripe as seen in the photographs.The color stripes are vivid with the central purple stripe paler in tone then the same central purple stripe on a second poster we also are offering. The poster can be removed from the frame and sent rolled in a tube. Gene Davis (Washington, D.C., 1920 - 1985) was a self-taught artist and founding member of the Washington Color School. He taught at the Corcoran School of Art and American University and was an artist-in-residence at Skidmore College. He had over 100 one-man shows and while he worked in many styles and media, including collage and photography, his multi-color vertical stripe paintings continue to be the most sought after. His work is in museum collections around the world, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Tate Gallery, Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
