GLENN FORD - CONTRACT SIGNED 04/18/1953 - HFSID 77425 GLENN FORD Glenn Ford signs a document with RKO Radio Pictures about the film Duel in the Jungle. Document signed: "Glenn Ford" on page 2, 2p, 8½x13. No place, 1953 April 18. Agreement between Ford as actor and RKO Radio Pictures as distribution company protecting the financial interests of the latter in the event that Alpine Productions, a California production company, fails to fulfill the terms of its concurrent contract with Ford to make the film Duel in the Jungle. This agreement was a prudent precaution, because Duel in the Jungle was released in 1954 without Ford in the cast. After making his screen debut in 20th Century-Fox's Heaven With a Barbed Wire Fence (1939), Ford showed his diversity in a wide variety of genres, playing dark characters (The Blackboard Jungle and Ransom, both released in 1955), romantic leading men (Teahouse of the August Moon, 1956; The Gazebo, 1959) and rugged western heroes (The Desperados, 1943; The Sheepman, 1958; Cimarron, 1960). In 1958, Ford was voted the number one male box-office attraction, and he was able to extend his popularity long after the studio system that "created" him had collapsed. Later in his career, he appeared on television as well as appearing in feature films, including Superman: The Movie (1978).
