Description: HO Scale V&TRR Genoa 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive & Tender In Box - Tested / Runs! Two years ago, my father passed and I received the remnants of his HO Scale train collection, consisting of a diesel locomotive, several switchers, a beat-up steam locomotive and a collection of track and some freight cars. From that collection I found one locomotive, a Virginia & Truckee Railroad Genoa 4-4-0 which required repairs and restoration, and it showed me that these trains can be repaired, refurbished, and restored to operational condition for many more years of enjoyment by model railroad enthusiasts...without having to pay hundreds of dollars for the newer models. Since then, I have searched for damaged, non-functional steam locomotives of the 2-4-0 and 4-4-0 configurations to repair and restore. In this way, I honor my father and attempt to pass on his love for model railroading to others who search for these vintage locomotives. So what are you getting? Everytime I find V&TRR Genoa 4-4-0's, I immediately get excited. This was my dad's locomotive, the one he left me, and when I receive one in the mail that requires repairs and restoration, I do everything I can to make it track-worthy again. So it is that I received THIS V&TRR Genoa 4-4-0, and it needed some work:First and foremost, the front boiler plate with the badge was missing, so that had to be replacedSecond, the metal domes and other brass pieces on the locomotive were tarnished and needed a serious buffing to restore their shine. All brass pieces from the air-brake canisters, to the railings running along the boiler on either side, to the domes atop the boiler, to the brass pieces beneath the Engineering cabin were all buffed and cleaned. All axles and trucks were checked and cleaned to remove corrosion and to aid in better electric current when powered up.The drive shaft was missing, so I acquired a new one. With all of the locomotives I receive, I disassembled the locomotive and buffed all metal pieces to improve electric current, as well as to remove all dirt and debris that may have lodged into the gear and connections. The body of the locomotive and tender were both cleaned with water and Q-tips, and everything was tightened before testing on the track. The tender car was checked for power and connected to the locomotive for testing.Testing on the track went off without a hitch. In forward and reverse (see video) the locomotive responded immediately and moved effortlessly around the track. The tender car is in excellent condition with the steps all along the car remaining intact with the exception of the right rear step. The rear of the tender car includes a hook and horn coupler.Watch the video and you'll see that this locomotive is ready to go! Unlike other sellers, who either don't provide a video to prove that the locomotive you're buying WILL work upon receipt OR they provide a short "back and forth" video that barely lasts five to ten seconds, MY video is almost one minute long. I set up a full oval track that allows the locomotive to go around two or three times to show it's performance. This also allows me to see if I missed anything, like a loose axle screw that might come apart during operation. Better to catch it in testing than to ship it to you and find it won't work, right? You get two to three passes going forward and one or two passes in reverse. Don't you feel better SEEING what you'll be getting rather than just taking someone's word for it? I provide pictures from multiple angles and video to show that what you're seeing is what you're getting! Besides the missing step on the rear, the only other issues that I can point out are these:It appears that at some point a previous owner decided to paint a white line down the edge of the running boards from the boiler back to the Engineering Cabin on both sides. While it was not an original feature, it doesn't detract from the overall aesthetic of the train. The box that this V&TRR Genoa 4-4-0 steam locomotive and tender comes in is NOT the original box (obviously). The box was originally intended for a baggage car. However, while I had the original cradle for the locomotive, I wanted to be able to deliver the locomotive in a display box to ensure it's safe delivery. This box is perfect for that use AND it also is in excellent condition so you can use it to display your Genoa when it isn't in use!I'm really proud of the work on the locomotive and I hope you'll be too. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I have other locomotives and freight cars available, so check them out! Shipping will be via US Ground Advantage to keep costs down.
