Description: Additional Information from InnerSleeve Product Description Named after the well-known Jimi Hendrix tune, If Six Was Nine is an Italian quintet that previously recorded a Hendrix tribute. Here, the group focuses on songs written by jazz bassist Charles Mingus, pop icon Frank Zappa, and classical composer Erik Satie. With a front line of vocalist Lucia Cappelli, soprano and tenor saxophonist Diego Carraresi, trumpeter Sergio Gistri, and baritone saxophonist Dario Cecchini, the tightly arranged parts rely on the varied timbres of the horns more than on individual improvisation. Drummer Alessandro Fabbri keeps the beat rolling, and Checchini impresses with some vibrant contributions on bari. Cappelli's voice doubles as horn and commentator, mostly in Italian. Overall, the group may be a bit too tight for many tastes: smoothly performed, but taking on the veneer of a Broadway musical. ~ Steve Loewy About InnerSleeve We offer unbeatable prices, quick shipping times and a wide selection of vinyl.
