Description: Jupiter Jasper is from the northern Cape area of South Africa. It's from a shipment that I imported about 10 years ago and have had out in my rock yard. The mine I purchased it from cut a lot of spheres from the rough, and they thought the spheres looked like the planet Jupiter so that's what they called it. Many African jaspers are in very limited supply because they are from small deposits on farms. Once they're mined out, they're gone. Jasper is an opaque microcrystalline quartz. Jaspers usually form when fine bits of sediments are cemented by silica. The particles and bits of sediment are what provide the color. This piece is 4 pounds 4 ounces, and is about 5.5 inches x 4.5 inches x 3 inches. I'm offering free shipping on this piece.
