Description: This unusual miniature oil painting on card is elegantly executed. The subject is exquisitely attired in an elaborate red dress with delicate earrings and bracelets and is holding a flower in her left hand. I find her eyes to be particularly captivating. The condition is good and I've attempted to show the details in the photos. There is speculation that it may have originally been on the lid of a cigar box. The oval-shaped painting itself is only 4 1/4 inches tall and 2 1/8 inches wide. I estimate the period of the painting to be late 19th century based on the design of the subject's dress. A flattering black matting subtly surrounds the painting. All this is under museum-quality conservation glass. Matting and backing are acid-free. The frame is gilded carved wood. I had this piece framed at one of America's leading picture frame studios about ten years ago.
