Description: Believed to be first U.S.Edition of this children's classic. 267 pages. Just under 9" by 6". Damage to the top of the spine covering (see photo). The gold-colored title etc. on the spine is almost completely gone; the front cover still looks good. Overall clean pages - just some spots and smudges in the beginning. There is a bowing to the long edge of the book (see last photo). I have not tried to press it etc. Former owner's name and address are written inside the front cover in pencil. Her name was 'Shiela Appelson', and St. Marks Ave. is in Brooklyn, near Midwood High School and Ebbet's Field. There is the number '40' written in green or some time blue crayon (?) on the facing page inside the cover. My guess (and it is only that) is that Shiela Appelson owned this book in 1911 or so, it wound up in a Used Book store in Brooklyn some time after that, where it was priced at 40 cents. Note separation of the binding along the inside cover. Not as severe for the back inside cover area. The long edge of the paper is rough-cut, not smooth ("deckle-edged"?). The top and bottom surfaces are cut even and smooth. Peter and Wendy (1911) - Charles Scribner's Sons - F.D. Bedford illustrations.
