Description: antique Cabinet photo of politician Warner Miller. Before entering politics, Miller served in the Union Army during the Civil War as a Sergeant Major of the 5th New York Volunteer Cavalry. He was captured by the Confederates at the First Battle of Winchester in May, 1862. He was soon released back to Union forces as part of a prisoner exchange, receiving an Honorable Discharge the following month, June, 1862. He was later elected to New York's House of Representatives serving from 1879 to 1881. He then became a U.S. Senator from New York from 1881 to 1887.
