Description: This neat guy was made during the 1930s in Alabama as part of the WPA program started my President Rosevelt during the Great Depression. Each state had a different doll the folks made for the government. They received patterns and materials to make these dolls and then were paid for them. When I found my first doll on EBay and made an offer, I learned about these dolls. They are wonderful. The details on them is great. I’ve been buying them ever since and have several. This guy has black pants with knee patches and a light green plaid print shirt. He is carrying a load of firewood over his shoulder and a tiny bucket in his hand. He is carrying a fishing pole on his shoulder. He has a black fabric hat. . His face is hand sewn and he has a short white beard (some of his beard is missing). He has black handmade shoes. His stand is made from a green roofing shingle. It’s hard and rare to find these dolls with the stand still on them. He’s just adorable, a good looking man. I’m 82 and having to downsize my wonderful collections. Thanks for looking. If you want to learn more about these dolls, go to Stonegate Antiques.net then Alabama Folk Art sold. They have several pages, dolls and prices. These are wonderful dolls.
