Description: Here's a rare early 1840s shoulder seal embossed wine bottle from the Hermitage, Bordeaux region of France .....ALEXIS LE MONNIER HERMITAGE BORDEAUX boldly emb on a crude applied slab of glass on front shoulder....Hand blown with no mold seams...deep sunken bottom with no roughness, but may be pontiled??...sharp sheared lip with crude applied ring....olive green....11 5/8"tall....Good condition with only a small chip on edge of applied shoulder seal; a couple small chips on edge of sheared lip above the applied ring; no other damage. A dug bottle with overall haze. Should tumble clean nice. This bottle was dug from an 1840s outhouse privy pit. It is the only Alexis Le Monnier bottle I've ever seen or heard of....a rare find! Hermitage wines are highly prized and coveted today. If this bottle was full and sealed it would be worth as much as $100,000. Unfortunately, it is an old empty bottle...but still quite valuable! ...
