I myself searched for a few years before I settled on this version for my own library. The ornate gilt design, second tone title plate on spine, gilt edging around the inside liner sheets (photo 5), and gold ticking on the spine edge (photo 6) make it a stand out! -- The Oxford Library of the World's Great Books series of Franklin is the pinnacle of the pinnacle of their most beautiful books. Only a very limited run was made and they feature special design details (not all books have every detail) such as inlaid multi color leather, ultra ornate gilt, gold trimmed moire fabric edges, gilt spine hubs, often extra rich smooth leather, 3D raised cover details (like on Scarlet Letter), and other fine things. They are simply some of the most beautiful books of modern publication at what was an accessible original price. They are long out of print and the company sadly out of the book business. Of the set of fifty, some books are nicer than others. But they all are exceptional. Few makers produce anything like them now! Condition: Leather is bright with light sign of shelf wear. Light marr to gilt page ends with marks. There is a light red mark down one page that seems to be from the red satin page marker (photo 7). This is not from any moisture exposure and there is no welting from water of any kind. Rather it seems to be a binder flaw where the newly bound satin ribbon bled pigment on that one page. It is clear it no longer does so because the marker is not on that page and does not bleed. It does go through that page so it can be seen partially on the other side of it, but not as pronounced.
