Description: A rare submarine depth gauge, believed to be from a T-Class submarine of the early 1940s. These diesel-electric vessels were developed just prior to the outbreak of World War 2 and went on to play an important part in the conflict. The instrument measures 35cm (approximately 14") across and has two scales reading down to 350' depth of water below keel level and 150lbs/sq inch of pressure. It was manufactured by Payne and Griffiths, a Birmingham-based maker of precision gauges, founded in 1937 and an important supplier to the British Admiralty from World War 2 onwards. Condition: The instrument survives in very good condition with minor age-related marks, some paint spots etc. The brass components have been polished but have some accumulated dirt and oxidation. The needle has been partially repainted at some stage. Internally it looks to be complete but is sold as seen and untested. OFFERS: If considering making an offer please bear in mind that while eBay has now removed all charges for private sellers, its charges for business sellers continue to rise. For me, these currently stand at around 24%, making eBay by far the most expensive of the three platforms that I currently sell on. If you do make an offer, please do not be offended if it is rejected. I strive to offer only the best quality items at the most competitive prices that I can. Overseas buyers are welcome, import charges may apply. This item will be carefully wrapped and promptly dispatched. For other maritime antiques, please be sure to visit my eBay shop and subscribe if you would like to receive notifications and offers.
