Long before the first dinosaurs.The plate is about 8.6” by 6.6” (varies), and it weighs about 2 lbs. 7.7 oz. (1125 grams).The new Starfish is spectacular! It is unpainted and totally natural. Measuring about 3.3” inches across at the longest lengths, it strikes us as a very interesting Starfish. You don’t see a central disk in the middle as in a Brittle star, but tiny bumps in a circle that the 5 legs attach into. Then of course, is the outer edge that encompasses the whole creature.There is also one arm and part of the central disc body of a partial brittle star.According to Deep Sea World, “Starfish are characterized by their thick, triangular shaped arms which are at their widest where they connect to the central body. Brittle stars, on the other hand, have much thinner arms that connect to a distinct central disc.”Also, as to locomotion, the legs of a Brittle star move freely, and these legs certainly cannot move freely. Wikipedia says “Brittle stars use their arms for locomotion. Brittle stars move fairly rapidly by wriggling their arms which are highly flexible and enable the animals to make either snake-like or rowing movements.”Starfish have legs, sometimes called arms, that do not move as freely. They move using tiny tube feet on the underside of their bodies.Someday, if more of these Starfish are found and it is named, you will still have a very rare specimen.We invite you to visit our store.
