The adaptation of the Louvre buildings must surely rank as one of the most remarkable feats of museum science. In his introductory text, M. Gauthier describes how this was achieved, and how the museum's great collections were gradually amassed. The reproductions in this second volume on the Louvre deal with the paintings in the museum, and are accompanied by detailed com-mentaries.
