Description: This is a macabre and Unusual Antique Surrealist Horror VAMPIRE Gothic Blood Fountain Oil Painting on Canvas, mounted on Artist Board, likely dating to the 1930's. This artwork depicts an unclothed male figure with jet black skin, who spews blood from his mouth. He is surrounded by a huge fountain of deep red blood, which cascades high into the hair and pours over him and the stone fountain below him, pooling onto the surrounding grass. This fountain appears to be isolated in a wide field, which adds to the unsettling and disturbing nature of this scene. The subject is possibly a demon, or maybe a vampire, as he exhibits an otherworldly presence. This painting might represent a person who is in Hell. Ultimately, it is open to numerous interpretations. This piece is signed: "Carr" in the lower right corner. I could not identify which artist by this surname created this painting, but perhaps you know more about them or their work? There is definitely an occult influence on this painting, and its subject matter. It looks like it is straight out of Clive Barker's Hellraiser. This painting is nearly 100 years of old, and that alone makes this artwork very unusual for the time period. Approximately 20 7/8 x 25 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 14 7/8 x 19 1/2 inches. Good overall condition for age, with mild scuffs to the gilded vintage frame, and a few light scuffs and areas of age-related craquelure to the painted surface (please see photos.)
