Description: 19th century framed hand engraving by Armand Mathey (1854-1931) is a superb example of 18th century portraiture reproduced in the 19th century via engravings and deftly hand-engraving to bring out detail. Affluent couples would have their portraits made as a legacy item, often depicted with a favored pet. Notice the artist's particular skill at extremely fine detail in the closeup photos. Survives in its original finely detailed old frame. Previous collector inscriptions of personalized possessions. The etching was framed on June 21, 1945, as seen on lower left. In excellent vintage condition. A few insignificant scruffs around frame, and old cover paper is torn on the back.
