Description: This is the third in a series of videos presented by the Ving Tsun Museum on the Ip Man system. This video builds on the previous DVD, bringing you into the advance level of training. The information is presented in several formats throughout the video - solo, partner demonstration, and application - giving you a chance to see the simplicity, directness, and efficiency of this Wing Chun lineage. This videos presented by the Ving Tsun Museum on the Ip Man system. This video builds on the format demonstrated in the three tapes, this time presenting the application, Chi Sau level of exercises and drills for the Biy Ji student. These exercises and drills directly covered through motions and techniques, forms and body mechanics, attributes, concepts and tactics, and applications. By having skill in these exercises and drills, the student is training his hands and body to be on "auto-pilot" – to react spontaneously and correctly to changing situations. Ip Man once said that if a student, having attained the skills of Siu Nim Tau and Chum Kiu, ever lost a fight, he would throw himself off the roof of the Restaurant Workers Union. He never had to make good on that promise due to the excellent training provided in this lineage of Wing Chun. Explanation of the Ip Man family tree The Ving Tsun System is simple, direct, and efficient. Its seeds were planted centuries ago in Southern China and sprouted through Revolutionary activities during the Qing Dynasty. The Art eventually came to rest with the members of the Red Boat Opera, based out of the city of Futshan (Buddha's Mountain) in Southern China. Legendary fighters of the following generations soon gained Ving Tsun much fame as a superior Martial Art. One of the most well-known fighters of this generation was Dr. Leung Jaan, a traditional Chinese doctor. He was directly taught by two Red Boat Opera members, Wong Wah Bou and Leung Yi Tai. Leung Jaan fought many challenge matches, spreading the name of Ving Tsun. He was one of many people in that generation who proved the effectiveness of Ving Tsun's complete system and revolutionary principles. In the Ip Man lineage, the legacy of Leung Jaan went to Chan Wah Shun. Chan Wah Shun was Ip Man's first teacher, Ip Man gained a deep exposure to this lineage of Ving Tsun. This exposure was further deepened through the many training experiences and professional relationships he enjoyed throughout the Southern Chinese martial arts community. As Masters (one of the most famous today being Ip Man) began to leave China for what was then British controlled Hong Kong, the Art soon flourished. Bruce Lee brought Ving Tsun to international status through his movies and writings in the West. This lineage now has practitioners all over the world, enjoying the fruits of those seeds planted by their Shaolin ancestors Grand Master Benny Meng takes you behind the scenes to understand the When, Where, How, and Why of Wing Chun CK Application. The DVD focus on developing techniques, and gives you what you need to know to put your techniques into operation. When it comes to learning the martial arts from exotic, hidden systems to one of the most popular arts such as Wing Chun, practitioners start the learning process by developing tools and techniques. Many make the mistake of continually learning and adding more. Collecting tools does not automatically develop an understanding of a technique's mechanics and functions. When you understand that the form and mechanics of a technique gives birth to the tool's functions, you are no longer at the beginner stage of chasing after techniques and styles. To reach the highest levels of understanding and skill, you must take your techniques into the arena of live fighting skill against a resisting opponent in a challenging environment free of fixed patterns. To achieve this level, you must separate the methods used to develop the tools from the methods used to achieve live skill. This DVD covers what makes Wing Chun into Wing Chun, and putting Wing Chun into application. In order to develop the skill for application, you must understand this progression: learn tools in fixed drills, understand form and mechanics, and then apply the tool and mechanics under stress in a free-flow environment. This DVD is an excellent companion to the Ving Tsun Museum other Ip Man Instructional DVD Series, also produced by TC Media, International - which is focused on developing the tools and techniques of Wing Chun.
