Description: This vintage Maitland-Smith sculpture features two hunting dogs actively hunting their prey. It is painted bronze. You can see where the underlying bronze has patinated to turquoise on the underside of the work where the paint was perhaps not as thick or has been rubbed away. Handmade in Thailand, this piece showcases one of Paul Maitland-Smith's favorite subjects - dogs. Paul Maitland-Smith, a London antique dealer in the 1950's, founded Maitland-Smith Ltd., a luxury decor firm in 1979 in Hong Kong. Paul and the firm worked throughout Asia - The Philippines, China, Viet Nam, and primarily Thailand. Like Maitland-Smith's other work, this rare piece displays the intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail all their work is known for. It is approximately 15-1/2" long, 6-1/2" wide, and 6-1/4" tall. It weighs 14 pounds, 6 ounces. The piece is in excellent condition. There are a couple of spots where it looks like the paint has rubbed off or a white-is mark was made while cleaning. You have to look hard and in the right light at the right angle to see them. None of the pictures I took to try to show them looked like anything except a highlight. They don't take away from the beauty of the piece. It is hard to value fine art, but this price is $46 below the median for eBay sales of Maitland-Smith small to medium sculptures, and below (sometimes way below) the prices on the auction and other consignment sites I checked. So I feel it is priced to sell.
