Description: This is a prison art souvenir box made by prisoners at the Colorado State Prison in 1960. The inmates made these souvenir boxes which were then sold to tourists. This is a particularly pretty and nice example of prison art of the era, with wood burning decoration, interesting shaped box components, and hand painted red columbine flowers with green leaves, lined in red fabric, and sealed with lacquer. It measures about 7" x 4" x 4". In nice vintage condition with normal signs of wear for it's age. The lid and hinges work properly. The latch closes but doesn't quite close all the way over the latch pin. There is some darkening of the lining in the bottom of the box. There seems to have been a repair to one of the feet, and the bottom of the box has some scratches. The hinges and clasp are a coppery-gold toned metal and in nice condition with just a bit of wear showing on the latch tab. There are two small scratches on the top right side of the box lid. Please see pictures for details.
