Description: A stunning bound volume of annuals edited by Joseph Bibby, English industrialist and a prominent member of the Theosophical Society. The missing volumes mystery Although the spine says 'Bibby's Annual 1914-22,' not every year is included. The annuals in the volume are: 1914 1915 1916 1918 1920 1921 1922 So, there is no 1917 annual, nor is there a 1919 annual. It looks deliberate, and there are no gaps, loose binding, or torn pages that might indicate two volumes had been removed at any point. At the back, there is a tiny stamp that says 'Bound by WH Smith and Son', adding further credence to the idea that this compendium was intentionally bound without the annuals for 1917 and 1919. This hefty tome is lavishly illustrated with gorgeous reproductions of famous paintings and drawings. It features stunning colour illustrations and numerous further half-tone illustrations in text. CONDITION In the original publisher's full cloth binding. It shows wear all along the spine edges. The front cover is marked and a bit stained. The pages look clean, although there is foxing on the first few pages at the front and the last few pages at the back. INSCRIPTION The original owner wrote an inscription in ink on the first page ('With Mamma's love to Ralphie Xmas '25'). WEIGHT The book weighs 4.6kg. It is about 39.5cm in length, 28.5cm in width and about 4.5cm thick.
