Description: OK, So What Is It? A custom fit "no mods" thumb rest for the newer Rickenbacker 4003 bass. Easy on, easy off -- NO NEW HOLES -- ZERO modifications to your bass! ========= If you are a finger-style player with a Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003, you know there is no really good place to "hang your thumb" - You see many Rics with a wear spot at the corner of the pickguard where players try to "dig in", and many Rics with the chrome cover removed from the bridge pickup to allow finger style access. I designed this for my own 4003 as I wanted to make it more comfortable to play and keep the "cover on" for the classic look that is a big part of this bass for many Ric fans. The 4003v2 model is custom made for the new pickguards that Rickenbacker began using on some 4003W's in 2014,and began to use on other variations of 4003 in 2015 and 2016. By 2017, it became the standard pickguard for all Ric 4003's. It's very close, but not quite interchangeable with the earlier classic 4003 and 4001 Models.Due to variations in models and years and the EXACT FIT these are made to,it is not possible to offer a "one size fits all" version. (Believe me it would make our lives easier!) For the fit and look to be 100% right on, all Ric models MUST must use the appropriate Zero-Mod thumb rest version. This fits the NEW STYLE PICKGUARD Ric has on the 2015-2024 4003, 4003W, 4003S 4003S5 string and other 4003 models Rickenbacker is making now. HOW TO KNOW WHICH PICKGUARD YOU HAVE:Look at the two pickguard pictures above.The classic 4003 has two rounded corners, and the screw holes are both a similar distance to the edge of the pickguard.The NEW pickguard has one corner that is more pointed, with its screw hole much closer to the edge than the screw hole on the rounded corner. The "transition years" are the years where it is the most important for you to verify which guard you have.For MOST 4003 basses (those made from the start of the 4003 thru 2013, and SOME in the transition years of 2014 - 2016, a classic 4003 will give you a better fit. For early 4003's with 2-piece pickguards, our 4001 thumb rest will give you a better fit. This thumb rest is made from one quarter inch thick, high quality black acrylic, and precision CNC made in a machine shop here in the USA. CNC machining means precise beveling of the thumb rest - that translates into more comfort playing.The position and design mean NO NEW HOLES in your bass! Includes two pick guard screws that are slightly longer than the stock Ric screws, so you do not even change your screw holes by adding this on. It is invisible on the guard from a few feet away.
